A ships captain originally built this 1870 vintage residence. The old clock tower that ships used to time their the entry into the Old Port of Montreal is just a few blocks from the house on the St. Lawrence River. Much later it was owned by artist Marcel Barbeau, a contemporary of Jean Paul Riopelle, two of the authors of "La Refuse Globale" a manifesto which largely resulted in the quiet revolution of Quebec and the level of social culture which exists here today.
In designing our guest rooms we wanted to create surroundings to a standard that we would appreciate while away from home: comfortable and elegant without being pretentious and mindful of your personal needs. Since people spend most of their time in bed we pay special attention to high cotton thread count sheets, lots of pillows and comfy mattresses and covered duvets instead of blankets. Each room is air-conditioned with cable TV, wireless internet access and personal bathrobes.
Your creative energies will be channeled and inspired by original artwork while you recharge during your stay with us.
At La Loggia we have made a decision to use only biodegradable and phosphate free cleaning, laundry and soap products.
We are conveniently located within short walking distances of Old Montreal, Place des Arts and all the major summer festivals, the downtown shopping district, Parc Mont Royal and Parc la Fontaine, the gay village, and all the major universities and colleges that Montreal has to offer. We are three blocks from Beri/UQAM Metro, the main metro interchange for the city and one metro stop from Isle Ste. Helene and Parc Jean Drapeau, the homes of the Grand Prix, Picnik Electronik, and many summer music and cultural festivals.
From May 24 to Labor Day, one block from the house, Ste Catherine St is turned into a beautiful treed public promenade of terraced cafes, restaurants and bars, with musicians and artists, a vibrant urban environment created for everyone to enjoy.
We are also a few blocks from the dedicated bicycle path system on which you can safely ride all over the city of Montreal and beyond around the province of Quebec.
