LOCAL TAX LAWS. Based on local tax laws, all Chilean citizens and resident aliens are required to pay an additional tax (IVA) of 19%. To be exempt from this additional tax, payment must be made in U.S. dollars (hopefully in cash) and a copy of the immigration card and passport must be presented. This additional fee (VAT) is not included in the hotel rates and must be paid separately.
Please note that payments at the hostel by credit or debit card incur a 3.8% fee which will be added to your total rate. We always recommend paying in cash to avoid extra charges.
