We bought Skærven 2 years ago, just before the great pandemic hit. We have been busy updating and improving the property in the meantime and look forward to busy times ahead. It is a labor of love for my husband and I. We are doing it all by ourselves so improvements are slow but steady. Our next big project will be redoing all the decks. Every time you come visit, you will see noticeable changes and upgrades. We love watching the transformation and take pride in our efforts.

Hello and welcome to Our historic Skærven. Skærven is a very unique and historic property. It was built in 1930 and 1935. The architect, August Kolding, was well known for his properties that he designed in Nyborg. We are right on the second cleanest beach in all of Denmark. In the 1930’s there was a train station with the name Skærven and it would bring people from all over Denmark to our property and to the beach. The beach was much closer in the old days before they added sand to the land from building the big Storebælt bridge. It all started with the little cottage, which was originally a restaurant, and then in 1935 the big restaurant and ballroom were added. At one point there were 4000 people on the beach, enjoying the food at the restaurant and dancing the night away in the big ballroom. We would be happy to give you a tour. This happened all the way up until the 1970’s when the diabetes association bought Skærven as a vacation resort for children to learn about their diabetes. Then the last owner before us converted part of the restaurant into 3 apartments. We still have a smaller restaurant and ballroom for occasional parties. Skaerven is a very special place.

The neighborhood is great! As mentioned, we are right on one of the cleanest beaches in all of Denmark. We have no neighbors and have unobstructed views of the ocean from every apartment and from the cottage. There is an indoor swimming pool, a gym and recreation center just down the street as well as a picturesque golf course. Both are within walking distance. The city center isn’t that far away either and has a beautiful old castle with a moat that you can walk around. Lots of shopping in town and Nyborg has trains and buses that can take you to other parts of Denmark and even to other countries. There is a lot to see on the island of Fyn too. We would be happy to give you suggestions on what to see and do.
