From the vibrant city of Tarragona, distant about 60 kilometers, makes its way to Santa Coloma de Queralt, a treasure that holds the distinction of Cultural Interest. Its charming old town, steeped in medieval authenticity, is home to a number of remarkable monuments. Traces of the old walled perimeter are evident in four imposing portals, in addition to the arcaded squares of the Plaça Major and the Plaça de l'Església. Among the architectural gems are the imposing Castillo dels Comtes, with its Torre del Homenaje dominating the horizon and its majestic entrance; the Casa de la Villa, today converted into the Town Hall; the evocative Jewish quarter and the impressive Gothic Parish Church of Santa María, whose 17th-century bell tower and 14th-century alabaster altarpiece are eye-catchers. The tomb of the Counts of Queralt, a magnificent alabaster piece dating from 1370, rests in the Church of Santa Maria de Bell-lloc, revealing an elegant transition between Romanesque and Gothic. Near this temple, the Fountain of Les Canelles, with its eight fountains, a 17th century creation, and a Gothic cross add a distinctive touch to the surroundings.
