Can Pedragós is an old traditional stone farmhouse located in the area of " Alta Garrotxa", an area of outstanding natural beauty. Situated in the North east of "Catalunya". Perfect for hiker's and cyclists. For visiting medieval villages and towns, the volcanic area of the Garrotxa , Girona city, the Mediterranean sea, great local food. Hiking and cycling routes are varied and offer different levels of difficulty. "Can Pedragós", is mentioned as a farm house as early as the 12th century, paying taxes to the neighbouring castle of "Sales de Llierca". The house was built from the stone that lies in the ground right here, the beams are from the surrounding woods ( holm oak, and Olive), the gypsum mixed with ash and lime , to render the walls ." The medieval insulation" means it keeps the cold out in winter and the heat in summer. For hundred of years, it would have been a totally self sufficient farm house , they would have made their own olive oil and wine. Baked their own bread. So the excess of production would have been sold or exchanged at the local market for products that they didn't manage to self produce. The house is mostly how we found it. Its situated on a hill , it has easterly views towards the coast. looking north is the begining of the "Alta Garrotxa" mountains, and west views towards the volcanic area of la "Garrotxa" and its main town "Olot". The area is full of wild life, and woods. The house has its own garden and also a large field with a play area for kids. There are 3 donkeys who also live here , they have their own house and their own fields . "Mollie , Millie and Harry". It's a peaceful and quiet house, its cosy and at the same time spacious.

We live in the converted farm buildings next to the house. We are totally separate from the house. We moved here in 2013 from London to try out a different way of life. The area is truly beautiful , living here surrounded by nature is really amazing. Our free time is spent "walking" mainly the mountains of the "Alta Garrotxa". Its the pre-Pyrenees but the views from these peaks are absolutely beautiful. So if you need any advice we are here to help.

We are sheltered by mountains in an area of outstanding beauty, where you can find total peace and be in touch with nature. We have a mild climate all year round perfect for those who enjoy walking, cycling straight from your doorstep. There are walks for all levels. The area of "Sadernes" is the gateway into the "Alta Garrotxa", paths that take you through gorges and valleys up to the rugged high peaks of this mountainous area: "Bassegoda", "Comanegra", "Pic de les bruixes".... with magnificent views . There are also walks in the volcanic area of la "Garrotxa" near the town of Olot. Here you can walk through the ancient beech forests of "la Fageda" , climb into the crater of the Santa Margarida volcano. Or if you want a something a bit higher , you can climb the peak of "Puigsacalm", or the range of "Finestres", which gives you a magnificent viewpoint of the volcanic area and the Pyrenees behind. We are about an hours drive of the higher Pyrenees , to do even higher routes. The mediterranean sea "Costa Brava" is also around 50-60 min drive, here you can enjoy the beaches or do some more sport, from kayaking to cicling or walking the coastal footpath or "camino de ronda". There are also lovely walks in the coastal mountains around "Cadaques" and the bay of "Roses". We spend our free time hiking and exploring the area, so we are happy assist with you making the most of your stay. We are in a popular cycling area, with high routes up to 2400 m. for expert riders , intermediate rides or the option of easier but the beautiful , "via verde, Carrilet" that follows the route of the narrow gauge railway that once linked Olot and Girona.you will have the opportunity to discover some of the fascinating natural and cultural facets of this region. We are surrounded by numerous medieval towns and villages to explore , including the regions capital "Girona", Besalu, Santa Pau.... Our nearest village is at 3km , has all necessary amenities.
