LOCATION Just a short walk away lies the hamlet of El Acebuchal (800m), a unique “off-the-beaten-path” destination where tranquillity reigns. Yet, within only a 15-minute drive you can be in the whitewashed village of Frigiliana (7 km), and in 25 minutes you can reach the beaches of Nerja. El Acebuchal has a fascinating history. Nestled in a lovely valley within the Tejeda and Almijara National Park, the village was abandoned in 1949 under the Franco regime. It remained in ruins until 1998, when a descendant of one of the original families began restoring a house. Since then, 32 homes, the town hall, chapel, bar, and cobbled streets have been lovingly rebuilt, reviving the hamlet’s original charm. Today, El Acebuchal is a haven of peace with no shops but a highly regarded bar-restaurant serving traditional local dishes such as game, wild boar, and goat. Access is via a winding mountain road, with the final 2 km along an unpaved track. In Frigiliana you will find small supermarkets, many shops and a wide selection of tapas bars and restaurants. Larger supermarkets and gas stations are located in Nerja, 14 km from the house. The surroundings are ideal for walkers, with pine forests, thyme, and rosemary perfuming the hillsides.
