We have been a little unfortunate with the water well having an aroma of sulphur dioxide. We have had the water tested and it is completely safe to use. Therefore the toilet, dishwasher and shower are fully functioning - however we prefer to wash in the traditional Finnish way of heating lake water in the sauna hot water tank, mixing it with cooler lake water.

We are an English and Finnish married couple with two young sons. When we first met we shared a dream to one day build a cabin together - a cabin in the forest, by a lake, amazing views, large wood fired sauna and hot tub. Somewhere to escape the world. In 2024 we completed that dream in the form of Kettula Getaway. A cabin designed by us and build with the help of friends and family. We're over the moon with how the cabin has turned out, it has everything needed for a cosy, cabin stay in the heart of nature. Kettula Getaway is surrounded by pure, untouched nature. The cabin is nestled in a serene pine and birch forest, offering a sense of seclusion and tranquility, yet it's close to the pristine Lake Kiantajärvi for refreshing swims and breathtaking sunsets. There is a summer house either side of Kettula Getaway, but far away enough to feel very private and secluded. The area is rich in outdoor adventure, with nearby Hossa National Park, perfect for hiking, kayaking, and exploring ancient rock paintings. Close by is the famous Silent People art installation. In winter, guests can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and the magic of the northern wilderness under a sky filled with stars or even the Northern Lights. Beyond nature, the region carries authentic Finnish charm, from traditional sauna culture to peaceful, small-town hospitality in Suomussalmi. Whether seeking adventure or relaxation, the surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable retreat.
