This place is honestly magnificent. We are located on top of a hill overlooking stunning mountains in all directions, as well as the village of Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans, with its iconic church tower that is lit up at night. The property has seemingly endless forests, some terrific hiking trails, and even a creek. Many people love biking here too, though be warned that it's pretty mountainous around here). If you hit the right season, we also have cows!
There are two rental properties available. The Casa is a warm and cozy, but well-designed, one-story home, with all that you need to have a great vacation.
The other home, “The Mas at Cerdan Art + Nature,” listing 12576077, is an old farmhouse that has just been completely redone, top to bottom, while keeping as much of the old detail as we could. It is now a fun and modern home. These two houses can be rented separately or together, depending on your needs.
Valérie is our wonderful on-site host. She speaks French and some English (and is adept with Google translate for the others!). She lives about 10 minutes away.
Rona is American and is on-site from time to time. She speaks French reasonably well and some Spanish. Rona loves this magnificent little corner of the world. She and her husband Nathaniel have put a lot into improving the property and are excited to share it with you!
David is our handyman (and talented painter!). He lives here in town and speaks French and Catalan.
Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans is a small village, known as a place where people make (and sell!) espadrilles in the traditional style, as well as gorgeous striped fabrics that are sold all over the world. There is a pizza/bar and an in-season restaurant in walking distance (about 15-20 minutes), as well as numerous good options within a half hour drive. We have a Saturday morning market, a museum of espadrille-making and the Retirada, and a theater that shows a weekly movie and hosts other programming from time to time. We have a well-stocked grocery store, two bank/ATMs, a pharmacy, a post office, and even a doctor in town.
The town of Ceret, about 40 minutes away, is famous for its art, and is where Picasso lived and painted for a number of years, as well as several other famous painters from that era. It has a terrific art museum and a huge and amazing Saturday market.
For those interesting in going a little further, we are 1-1.5 hours from endless gorgeous beaches in both France and Spain. Let us know what you're looking for and we'll do our best to advise.
We are about 15 minutes to the Spanish border, with Figueres (1h), Girona (1.5h), Carcassone (2h), Barcelona (2.5h), and Toulouse (3h) all in striking distance.
