For many years, the épicerie (general stores) run by Gladys that is opposite the beautiful village church of St Martin in Chenac Saint Seurin d'Uzet was the focus for the community. Even today, with the name ‘Gladys’ inscribed on its facade, the building is a well known local landmark and part of the building is a comfortable gîte that is ideal for relaxing holidays in the beautiful Charente Maritime region of France.

 The property is a comfortable, spacious house (150 m2) that has recently been totally renovated to a very high standard. It is perfect for families wishing to visit and stay close to the sea and beaches and yet be in a peaceful village. Chez Gladys is conveniently situated between the market towns of Cozes (seven minutes) and Gémozac (15 minutes). Both towns have supermarkets and a good selection of shops. Mortagne sur Gironde, less than ten minutes away, also has a small supermarket, pharmacy and an excellent family run butcher and boulangerie. 
Chez Gladys offers everything for a relaxing holiday for all the family with great beaches and interesting towns including La Rochelle and Saintes to visit. Cycling, horse riding and sailing are all available plus excellent golf on an 18-hole golf course amongst pine trees at Saint-Palais-sur-Mer . For cyclists, the area is wonderful as guets can hire bicycles locally (Meschers) and then enjoy dedicated cycle routes along the coastal paths which are fabulous for all the family. For those bring their own bicycles a maximum of two adult bicycles may be kept in a locked shed in the garden (60m from the gîte).

Chrissie and John established a very successful gîte business in SW France in 2016 and had a rating of 9.2+ throughout. We have now moved to the beautiful village of Chenac Saint Serin d'Uzet near to beautiful beaches and have decided to continue their passion. With the port and its harbour less than 2km away, Gîte Chez Gladys is perfectly situated in a quiet area and yet close to all amenities. We are surrounded by vineyards where local red, white and rosé wines are produced and also cognac - the base for the local Pineau des Charentes - a truly delicious (alcoholic) drink.
