Beverley & Anthony Killeen We would like to like to introduce ourselves. My wife Beverley is an English teacher and I am a civil engineer. For the past 25 years we have worked in the Far East, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Myanmar, the Middle East, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and Europe, Romania and Bulgaria. We had looked at properties in different regions in France and decided that the Poitou Charente was the area that most appealed to us. We were shown a few properties in the area but we just fell in love with Le Bois de L'Eglise. We decided it was an ideal place for us to live and develop our ambition of running holiday cottages. We hope that you will enjoy your stay with us and take back good memories of this region of France. We will be there to greet you when you arrive to hand over the keys and help you settle in for your stay. We will be available throughout you stay to answer any queries about the gites and give you any help or advice you may need to make your stay with us enjoyable.

Property information

Gites: Le Bois de l'Eglise in Villiers le Roux is a small complex of 4 gites. Two of the gites have two bedrooms and are suitable for 4 persons. The other two gites have one bedroom and are suitable for 2 persons. Each of the gites has its own bathroom with toilet and shower and a fully equiped kitchen with gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine etc. Fresh towels and bedding are supplied at the beginning of your stay and are replaced each week each week of your stay. All you need to bring is yourself and your personal items. There is a private courtyard outside the gites and there is access to the owners 1 acre garden with its various seating and eating areas. The location is a rural countryside retreat perfect for cycling and walking with a number of signposted routes for both activities very close by. The region has its own micro-climate and has some of the sunniest weather in France, second only to the French Riviera. The area is primarily agricultural, with abundant sunflowers in the summer, and the surrounding woods and copses provide for a large variety of animal and bird life.

Neighbourhood information

Le Bois de l'Eglise is a tiny hamlet close to village of Villiers le Roux in the commune of Villefagnan in south West France. It is close to the town of Ruffec with its supermarkets, with fresh seafood stall, biweekly market, shops, cafés and public amenities. Close by are the picturesque and historic villages of Verteuil-sur-Charente and Nanteuil-en-Vallée with their excellent restaurants and cafes. The Charente, where the Le Bois de l'Eglise is situated, has a reputation of quiet area where you can explore the rural area far from the crowds. There are great places to visit such as Angoulême with its ramparts and its captivating city centre with a mix of old and new and the unexpected. Vienne is where the regional capital Poitiers is situated. The historic centre of the city with its historic buildings, street cafés and boulevards is a great place to explore and shop. Deux-Sevres department is to the north east of Poitou-Charentes and is best known for the Marais-Poitevin a large area of canals and marshes. Charente-Maritime is very popular with both French and overseas visitors for it attractions such as ile-de-Ré and the port of La Rochelle.
