Our little part of south-western France also boasts 2400 hours of sunshine a year making it the perfect place to enjoy the peace and tranquility of country living but still be close to all that Poitou-Charantes has to offer.

Paul and I dreamt of relocating to France and running our own gîte business so we left our careers in advertising and finance in Edinburgh in March 2018, hired a motorhome and set out to travel around the country until we found the perfect location. And we found La Blatière…We fell in love with it's idyllic rural setting and the charm of the converted stables and farmhouse made them ideal holiday cottages for guests. It also had a converted barn for us to live in, allowing us to be on hand should you need us but at the same time enabling you to have all the privacy you want to enjoy your stay. So we sold up in Edinburgh and moved here in the middle of September, we lovingly redecorated and restyled the cottages and outdoor areas and are now ready to welcome you to this beautiful part of France, with its sunny climate close to everything this wonderful region has to offer.

This perfect, easy-to-reach location means there are so many wonderful things to do on your doorstep or slightly further afield. A leisurely stroll will take you into the local village for a coffee or to pick up a baguette or 10 mins along the road try Go Karting or the Parc Aventure with the kids, fishing at Pescalis or Moncoutant with its restaurants and market. Then just a little further away you can explore the beautiful cites of Niort, Poitiers and La Rochelle, go golfing at Bressuire enjoy the excitement of Futurescope, step back in time at Puy du Fou. Why not visit the wolves at the Zoodyssee or enjoy a relaxing day boating along the canals of France’s own Green Venice and there is so much more too… you will be spoilt for choice!
