Our flat is in the center of the picturesque village of La Roche-Guyon - within a stone's throw from the castle and the river Seine. The village proudly promotes itself as one of France's "most beautiful villages". Located in the nature park of the Vexin, it is a 15-minute drive to Giverny in the heart of impressionist country where C. Monet's quaint garden welcomes you. The flat has two floors: Downstairs with the kitchen and living room with a sofa bed for 2 persons and a toilet; upstairs with a bedroom and a full bathroom. It was fully renovated in 2016/17 and has all modern amenities within a beautiful setting.
Bakery, restaurants & grocery in the village; beautiful châteaux, golfing, horse riding, canoeing & hiking in easy reach. Versailles by car in ~60 minutes. Great place for outdoor, art & culture enthusiasts!
I fell in love with La Roche-Guyon a long time ago. I am happy to give visitors an opportunity to get to know this historic and delightful village that is in easy reach of Paris and other key attractions such as Giverny with Claude Monet's garden, Versailles with its stunning castle and Rouen with its beautiful cathedral.
The apartment is placed within the only village that carries the prestigious label of "Most Beautiful Villages of France" in the Ile de France region. The village's main features are its beautiful château, gardens and its proximity to the river Seine. The château is still owned by the Rochefoucauld family, one of France's most well-known nobel families. Its fortified dungeon dominates the Seine valley since the twelfth century. It is connected to the lower fortress by a subterranean tunnel that was carved into the white cliffs- the adventurous access through a set of stairs is particularly popular with children (from ~5 yrs). For those interested in gardening, the château's "potager" has adopted an innovative approach to planting vegetables and its produce now proudly carries the label "organically produced" (Label AB). Painters such as Georges Braque, Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro have all been inspired by the unique location of the village and castle. A must is a visit of Claude Monet's famous garden with its waterlilies in Giverny, a 15-minute drive from the apartment.
