Saintes, sitting on the banks of the Charente, was the Roman capital of the Aquitaine and boasts architectural remains including The Arch of Germanicus, an Amphitheatre and the Baths of Saint Saloine. In the city centre, you will find the Saint-Pierre cathedral and other historical buildings. A climb to the belvedere on the cliff, leaves you overlooking the town and surrounding meadows.
