Welcome to Le Neptune, a charming B & B situated in the picturesque and historic harbor town, “Le Somail” on the Canal du Midi, 12 km from Narbonne and 30 km from the Mediterranean Sea.
The house is a wine mansion from the 19th century with many original features such as the stairways, floors, fireplaces, cabinets, mirrors, etc …
It is wonderful to have breakfast on the south-facing terrace surrounded by greenery, while overlooking the canal.
All rooms are very quiet, spacious and equipped with a private bathroom and toilet. Some rooms have two separate bedrooms, ideal for families with children or two couples.
There is free bicycle storage and WiFi provided in the building.
A traditional French breakfast is served. This includes: orange juice, bread, butter, jam, Nutella, coffee (or tea, or hot chocolate), sugar, milk and yogurt.
In June 2012, after a week’s holiday in their ancient railway station in Auvergne which they entirely transformed into a comfortable gîte, Dirk and Inge went for another week stay in southern France. That’s when they discovered Le Somail and fell instantly in love with this village. After thirty years having worked for the bank, Dirk thought it was time to give his life a boost. Also Inge found it was time to breathe a different air as the one of the library she worked in for so many years. Because the children, however, were not all graduated at that moment it wasn’t possible to realize their dream. In 2015 all puzzle pieces miraculously matched: all children are graduated and Inge discovers on the Web that the B&B in Le Somail, where they gasped for years, is for sale. A few months later they were sitting at the notary and this signified a goodbye to Belgium.
Now they enjoy at “their” Neptune at the banks of the Canal du Midi and hope to welcome you one of these days to be a part of their long-cherished dream.
Whatever your interest might be, Le Neptune is the ideal base for all your excursions: For sports enthusiasts, a bike tour, boat trip or a stroll on foot or on horseback along the Canal du Midi (classified as World Heritage by UNESCO). For life enjoyers: there is the endless beaches in the area and the gastronomy with its world-class wines. If you prefer some culture, then a visit to the Templar castles in the Cathar country, such as Peyrepertuse, Queribus and Montsegur, are definitely a must. Roman and medieval towns like Narbonne, Béziers and Carcassonne are close and can be combined with a day of shopping. As Spain and Andorra are not that far away either, a (shopping) trip to these destinations might be an option too. Or maybe you’d rather go in search of the treasure of the Cathars, or would you rather solve the mystery of priest Sauniere of Rennes-le-Château?
