Loughton is a lovely area in Epping Forest with lots of amenities and natural beauty. You’ll hear and see lots of birds as well as the occasional badger or fox. Feel free to buy some bird seed to feed the birds, but please don’t feed the foxes or other animals. The Broadway is a 2-minute walk and has various small shops and eateries, and Central Line. Our favourite place on the Broadway is The Lounge where you can get some great brunch options or drinks later in the day. Other popular restaurants include Efezade Mezze (Turkish), Café Bengal (Indian), Palm Bay Caribbean (Caribbean), T & J Kelly (traditional pie shop), and Golden Anchor (Fish and Chips). For groceries, there’s a Sainsbury’s near the station, Iceland on the Broadway, Nisa and a small M&S Simply Food at the BP station at the top of the Broadway. There is also a local pharmacist, post office and other convenience stores. A 5 min drive away, but still within walking distance there is a shopping park with a Boots, Next, Aldi and more. We recommend looking on Google Maps. Loughton high street is also easy to get to by car, bus, or train. There are several restaurants, salons, various amenities, as well as a Lidl, Morrisons and larger M&S and Sainsbury’s. Pubs within walking distance include the Cottage Loaf and Gunmakers Arms. There are lots of green spaces, parks, and playgrounds within walking distance. The largest is Jessel Green, but the one on Westall Road is closer. If you look on Google maps, you’ll also see several other green spaces to explore. If you fancy a longer walk in the forest, the easiest way to get into the larger Epping Forest is near the Foresters Arms. Much closer is a forest and creek accessible at the corner of Rookwood Avenue and the Broadway. You can walk or cycle from here to Theydon Bois and Epping. The nearest gym is the Snap Fitness next to the Sainsbury, about 6 minute walk from the house. There is also a larger leisure centre with a pool about a 5 minute drive.
