'Scotland - the most beautiful country in the world' - Rough Guide. Views from our sitting room are proof of that. Our spacious, clean and modern apartment with its exquisite views is located in a bizarre and atmospheric 'Addams Family' castle. Historically important Erines House was rebuilt in 1912 in the style of a Baronial Hall - the fantasy of an eccentric Dutchman.
Recently decorated, our first-floor apartment has recently been completely remodelled. The new bathroom has been fitted with a walk-in power shower. There are new hardwood floors throughout, and the kitchen is comprehensively equipped with all new modern appliances.
The galley kitchen, the dining area and the sitting room are combined into one attractive space that overlooks stunning views of Loch Fyne. The kitchen is very well equipped, with a fan oven, a four hotplate hob, a microwave cooker, toaster, an espresso coffee machine and a full-size dishwasher. There is also a refrigerator, a washing machine and a tumble dryer available for your use.
We have recently installed two new electric radiators, one in the main room and one in the hall. In addition there is an efficient flame effect electric heater I the main room too. Each bedroom has its own electric heater and the bathroom has an electric towel rail as well.
There are two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, and the other has twin beds in it. The second bedroom is small, but we decided that it was better to have full-size beds.
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY.
Our tap water comes from a private supply and is sometimes discoloured. We have installed appropriate ceramic and UV filters in our property, and our filters meet a SATISFACTORY standard with regard to microbiology. However, the overall quality of our water supply does not meet the standard required by the local authority - therefore we display a notice asking you not to drink it.
We, our family and our friends, really love this place, but Erines is very much a matter of taste. For us, and for many of our guests, it is a five-star experience, for others, particularly those seeking metropolitan standards of luxury, it is not.
There are some things to bear in mind when you come to visit us.
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. YOU MIGHT DECIDE THAT ERINES IS NOT FOR YOU.
Like thousands of properties in Scotland, and as previously mentioned, our tap water comes from a private supply and is often discoloured - particularly after heavy rainfall. This means that Erines house fails the official 'Colour' test.
All of the other apartments in the property happily use the water as it comes off the fell, but we have installed a state of the art ultra violet and ceramic filtering system in the apartment itself. The filters and the UV bulb are changed regularly. The local authority tests the water every year and our filter system provides a SATISFACTORY test result with regard to microbiology. However, we recommend that you purchase bottled water for drinking - we provide DRINKING water for you on arrival - and we have placed a sign in the flat reminding you not to drink the water from our taps.
Because this is a regional issue, large (five litre) bottles of mineral water can be bought locally.
Please note that when it rains, the steps up to the main entrance of the house can be slippery, so please take care - particularly in the dark. The entrance lobby and the main hall with its wonderful staircase adds to the 'Addams Family' atmosphere of the house.
Our apartment, the facility that we are letting, has had a lot of work done on it and is very clean, is in excellent condition - and we love it!.
