Acorn Cottage is rated 5 Star Gold by Visit England and has every luxury and modern convenience to give you the perfect stay.
Built in 1868 Acorn Cottage is a traditional flint cottage, and was a milking parlour, part of a larger agricultural barn, now Underhill Barn. The property oozes with character and benefits from its own private secure enclosed garden and we are doggie friendly and will happily take one well-behaved family friendly breed of dog. Should you wish to bring two dogs, please get in touch with us to discuss and this is possible by prior arrangement. Acorn Cottage even has a hot & cold doggie shower so your dog can enjoy the coast and beautiful countryside on your doorstep and then wash it all off.
The cottage was tastefully renovated and benefits from a luxury bathroom with marble tiles and underfloor heating and the ktichen has top quality Neff appliances and its generously equipped; we're keen cooks and like to cook on holiday and we ensure that our guests can too. We even provide basic herbs, spices and oils so you don't have to bring half your kitchen on holiday and a basic welcome hamper.
Acorn Cottage sits in the heart of Southleigh village and its a great place to live with a fantastic agricultural community at its heart. Just 20 minutes away are The beautiful towns of Sidmouth and Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) at Beer and Branscombe is just over 10 minutes drive.
Ants’ first job was in Hospitality Management, however his career took a turn and he worked for over 20 years leading digital platforms and teams for many well-known global brands… but his passions lay elsewhere.
Food is and has always been his passion – he loves cooking, finding new produce and interesting ingredients and they are keen hosts, regularly entertaining friends and family and I now run a boutique 2 suite B&B, Underhill Barn B&B next door in the main house.
We’ve stayed in many self-catering places over the years both here in abroad, and I really wanted to create a place that we’d like to stay in. We’ve stayed in beautifully designed places, but there’s little kitchen equipment and I really like to cook. I really hope that we’ve found the right balance of design and practicality that keeps our guests comfortable and able to relax in our beautiful surroundings. Having worked in the City in senior roles, I know how exhausting modern life can be, and I want to provide a haven of calm and tranquility for our guests to recharge in comfort.
East Devon is stunningly beautiful and Southleigh is at the heart ot the East Devon Natural Landscape, (previously known as Areas of Outstanding Naturual Beauty). Just minutes away is the beautiful historical village of Beer with its quaint shops, cafe's and its famous beach and its still a working fishing village. Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are only 20 minutes away, Sidmouth with its Regency splendour whilst Lyme Regis is more bohemian filled with independent shops and cafes, its a real hot spot for fantastic restaurants and eateries, its a beautiful seaside town. Branscombe has two fantastic pubs and a huge beach which is never croweded even in the height of summer, its our favourite beach in the area.
There are stunning walks right from your doorstep at Acorn Cottage in the Coly valley or drive a few minutes and you're on the South West Coastal Path, with dramatic coastal scenery with rolling hills down to the shoreline, bring your walking shoes, there's lots to explore. Being by the coast, you can do fishing trips, paddleboard, canoe, there's plenty of activities on the water that you can choose from and if exploring the beautiful countryside on horseback is more your thing, we have riding stables a couple of miles away from us.
If you want to unwind in beautiful rural surroundings, take a dip in the clear blue sea and enjoy some of the best food and produce that England has to offer, then East Devon and Acorn Cottage is for you.
