Balcarres is situated on the edge of town, which is just a 15 minute walk away. Set up off Seafield Gardens at the end of a private road in a peaceful location, we have stunning views across Loch Linnhe and the mountains behind. All our rooms have been redecorated and their en-suites modernised, and now offer a cosy space from which to explore the area. We have a Guest Lounge with a comfy suite so you can relax after your adventures and plan your next day.
We originally planned to holiday in Fort William, but fell in love with the area, the people and Balcarres, so now we welcome guests into our home and enjoy sharing our enthusiasm of Lochaber. We have travelled extensively around the area and in our guest information folders have provided walks and drives you might like. Andy likes photography and has captured the area in pictures displayed around Balcarres to help you plan your visit. We enjoy chatting with our guests at breakfast, offering suggestions of what to do, if required.
In Town you will find numerous pubs and restaurants with many offering fresh local produce and there is also a lovely museum, which tells the story of the region and it's history. Local attractions include Ben Nevis (the UK's highest mountain), Glen Nevis and Steall Falls (the 3rd highest waterfall in Scotland) the Caledonian Canal with the magnificent Neptunes Staircase and the Jacobite steam train. Fort William is also at the start/end of the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way. Glencoe is just a 20 munute drive away. Just ouside of town on the Mallaig road is Treasures of the Earth, a museum that has one of Europe’s largest collection of Crystals, Gemstones & Fossils. Carrying on along that road will lead you to the Glenfinnan Viaduct and Memorial and then lead you to the beautiful beaches at Arisaig, Camusdarach, and the silver sands of Morar.
