Barn Cottage is a larger-than-normal delightful weaver's cottage set over 3 floors. There are 2 bedrooms available to guests on the second floor available to guests.
The large Willow Tree room has an extraordinary handmade bed made out of a willow tree. The room has a sofa, a desk and, tea/coffee-making facilities. It overlooks the hamlet and the fields beyond.
The smaller double bedroom features a brass bed and is a very pleasant light, bright space.
By arrangement, you can also have access to the high-ceilinged, renovated barn with an oak floor, and double staircase leading to mezzanines. The host is a qualified trapeze (and other aerial skills) teacher so lessons are available!
The cottage has a profusion of quirky objects and original art. It has 2 large wood-burning stoves that add to the cosiness of the property.
Barn Cottage has 2 lounges in the cottage so, even if there are guests in the second guest room, there is still plenty of space.
There's a large range in the shared kitchen which you can cook a full meal or just grab some plates and cutlery for your take-out. The showeroom is shared but only with maximim of 2 other guests.
I work as a performer and run my own aerial theatre company that make performances in the air on both circus equipment such as trapeze, or in harnesses and rope, like dancing and abseiling. Because I enjoy my work so, much my career is also my hobby. I teach occasionally in the barn which doubles as an aerial studio. Let me know if you are interested in having a go!
I also enjoy yoga, pilates and radio plays and stories. My other passion is for renovating properties and making them as quirky and unique as Barn Cottage.
Barn Cottage is nestled in a tiny hamlet of less than 50 properties. There is a lovely view of the hamlet from the front of the property. There are a myriad of walks in the area including, a public footpath through the hamlet. It is an excellent base for hiking, cycling or horse riding. Beaumont Park is a magical leafy area and we are not far from Cartwright Hall currently hosting the Turner Prize. Shibden Hall former home of Gentleman Jack and, Oakwell Hall and Country Park are about 9 miles away. The amazing award winning Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a 30 minute drive.
More locally there is a vineyard with bar and restaurant and dozens of fantastic coffee houses. There are also a wide range of pubs and great tea rooms including Sid's Cafe (from Last of the Summer Wine) and Nora's Cottage that is open to the public during the summer. The eateries are great and there are lovely independent shops for clothes, crafts etc.
It is a great location for going to local music venue Picturedrome and, there are numerous festivals; food and drink, outdoor arts, folk music, art, vintage cars, and a duck race in Holmfirth throughout the year.
I provide tourist information in your guest lounge and am very happy to recommend information on what to do and where to eat.
Holmfirth & Honley are about 8 minutes away by car.
