Neighbourhood information

Tavistock is the only town in Devon which holds a World Heritage status. Tavistock has direct access to Dartmoor. The Western Moor is magical and fantastic for walking, cycling and riding. Several National Trust properties are in easy reach: Lydford Gorge, Buckland Abbey and Cotehele are all nearby. For those cyclists enthusiasts, Drake's Trail is a multi-use route linking Tavistock with Plymouth, running along the western edge of Dartmoor with superb countryside, attractive scenery and much historical and heritage interest along the way. Both Barn Pool and Cremyll Beach are next to the Cremyll foot ferry with access to the gardens of Mount Edgecumbe Park nearby. With lovely views across to Plymouth, Cremyll beach is shingle and sand with some rock pools around the south side. Car parking is available at Cremyll and dogs are allowed year-round. The Dousland to Princetown Railway Track has been transformed into a spectacular walkway and rough cycle track that winds through deciduous woodland and past high moorland Tors. There are marvellous views of Burrator Lake and the Walkham Valley and the track passes the quarries of Sweltor and Foggintor, once famous for the granite used on many London buildings, including London Bridge. The popular city of Plymouth with its famous Barbican and National Marine Aquarium is within easy reach. The Dartmoor National Park, is popular all year round for horse riding, climbing, cycling and mountain biking, with routes including the West Devon Way, Granite Way and Two Castles Trail to explore.
