Our home is in a cul-de-sac in the quiet part of Bishop Auckland. The only disturbance is due to parents transporting their kids to the primary school at the end of our street. The house is a terrace house that was built in the 1800's and was a miners home. It has a large cellar. It's warm and tastefully decorated but not too loud!
I am a retired British man; born on n Norfolk where I farmed for the first thirty years of my life. I became a Mental Health volunteer (Samaritans) in my late teens and continued my volunteering until my late thirties; when I gave up farming, returned to University in Bristol and qualified as a Psychotherapist. My partner Joanne is a hospital chaplain and musician. We both enjoy travelling, exploring different places and cultures, food and and anything to do with Nature. We've both worked with 'people;' so we enjoy hosting and meeting others. We're also both aware of boundaries, space and the needs of others.
Bishop Auckland is the biggest town in County Durham after the historic and beautiful City of Durham; which is a half hour drive away. Traditionally it's been the Bishop of Durham's country retreat. There's a beautiful Palace, Faith Museum, Deer Park and incredible walled kitchen garden to visit; all of which we highly recommend. The town centre, like others in the area, was badly affected by the mines closing; so the BA high street is in a sorry state with quite a few boarded up shops. However there's all the big supermarkets, fashion shops, garden centres etc in Tindale; which is on the outskirts of BA. We are close to the beautiful countryside of the Dales (Teasdale, Weardale) and the Pennines. The Lake District is about one hour's drive. The pretty town of Barnard Castle, with great shops, pubs and restaurants is also half an hour's drive. The beautiful coastline of County Durham and Northumbria with pretty coastal villages, castles and long beautiful sandy beaches; is about a forty five minute drive. We also have the incredible Medieval pageant of Kynren in Bishop Auckland; every weekend during the summer - that's a 'must see!'
