Cawdor is famous for its 'Macbeth' connection with its 17th century Castle that is still home to the Cawdor family today. There is also a first class Cawdor Tavern boasting modern Scottish food with flair accompanied by a first class choice of wines, whiskeys and ales. There are many walks around Cawdor in lovely woods adjacent to Cawdor Castle. There is a guide to four short strolls, available from the castle; this walk takes a wide circle to follow the courses of two broad burns and have a look at their spectacular gorges. The woodland is mainly deciduous, with stately old beeches much in evidence, each with lots of room to show off its grandeur. The walk is an excellent family one (dogs are discouraged). Paths are good (with one muddy section). The walk can be combined with a visit to the castle
The city of Inverness, known as The metropolitan Capital of the Highlands, is the gateway to the countless delights of the Highlands of Scotland. Of particular note is the legendary Loch Ness.
