Surrounded by gorgeous countryside at the foot of Cader Idris, to the rear of the property a large garden provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor socialising with a number of seating areas. The perfect place to wind down after a day exploring with a sundowner, admiring the fabulous scenery. For dog owners, there is a field opposite which is perfect for a morning walk. Rather than spend all of your time at the 18th century house with Cader Idris views, what could be better than conquering the mountain itself. At 893m, Cader Idris is the highest mountain in Southern Snowdonia (Eryri) and can be seen for miles around. It's not an easy hike on any of the three recommended routes, but worthwhile if your fitness levels meet the challenge. Cefn-y-Maes is only a five minute drive to the popular market town of Dolgellau, which is great base for some fabulous walks such as the Mawddach Trail, following the picturesque Mawddach Estuary. Closer to home, a fantastic nearby hike is the Torrent Walk which is a 1.5 mile round trip following the Afon Clywedog. A beautiful woodland walk through a gorge provides scenic views of the river and some fabulous waterfalls. A few miles north of Dolgellau, Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park is a haven for mountain bikers or hikers, in a stunning woodland setting. Heading west from the property, the seaside resort of Barmouth is a 13 mile drive. A quaint seaside town, Barmouth has a large expanse of golden sand beach to explore and provides an awesome vantage point for the mountains of Southern Snowdonia. Heading north east, the lakeside town of Bala is popular with water sports fans. The Bala Adventure and Waterports Centre on the shores of Llyn Tegid provides a number of activities on the lake and in the surrounding area.
