Hill house 2 is a spacious cottage adjoining the East wing of a Georgian grade II* listed stately home in a private estate including established woodlands with ancient and magnificent trees. From the estate one can view the picturesque and beautiful Lune Valley the gateway to the lakes. This two bedroom cottage with four sofa beds can accommodate up to ten guests. This stone built, quaint cottage adjoins the outstanding and grand Quernmore Park Hall, built in the 1790's with an enchanting history, once owned by a Monks Order. Enjoy walking the estate with its colourful woodlands and sweeping lawns. Visit the magnificent 'Secret Walled Garden' where Monks once toiled for their "Daily Bread" and where generations have come and gone. This unique space is known as Eve's magic Garden. Some believe she has woven her spell within this special place (Read Eve's poem etched in black granite mounted on the old garden walls) an excerpt from which is directly below. This Estate is 10 minutes from the historic city of Lancaster, its fine castle and olde worldie streets and houses. The estate is situated in the Quernmore area where the Romans once governed and conducted remarkable industries. It is close to Caton Village and Hornby Castle and within 3 miles of Lancaster City Centre and Lancaster University. Ashton Memorial is known as the Taj Mahal of the North. The Grade I listed building is a tribute to Lord Ashton’s second Wife Jessy. The park is beautifully landscaped and the memorial itself has 360 degree views across Lancaster City, Morecambe Bay and on to the Lakeland fells. The famous Lancaster castle, built in the 1090's is owned by King Charles who is also the Duchy of Lancaster. The Castle, known as the John O’Gaunt castle, is one of the most fascinating and historic surviving buildings in the country. This is a sad and cruel reminder of Colonial times and flourishing but vicious slave trade. If you wander on to the foreshore please be aware of the dangerous tides as often walkers innocent of local knowledge have found themselves cut off at high tide. A beautiful local walk is to climb Clougha Pike which offers stunning views over the Lune Valley, the Forest of Bowland, Morecambe bay and to the Lakeland fells.
