Our beautiful, quaint cottage dates back hundreds of years. If you have ever wanted to stay in an old fisherman's cottage, this is the one. Dunnottar Cottage resides at the bottom of the path down from Dunnottar Castle. It is on three floors with lots of space, feature stone walls inside and oodles of character. On the ground floor is a separate lounge, dining room, and a kitchen leading to a utility. The main lounge houses a wood burner which makes this room cosy and we do have gas central heating too. On the second floor there are two double rooms with comfy beds and views. A hidden games room is located on the top floor. You will simply fall in love with the charm and comfort of this cottage and its location. No cars can park outside and the harbour is 30 seconds away, making it very peaceful but ideally situated. From the rear windows of the cottage you have views of the harbour. From the front is the footpath to the castle. The cottage walls are filled with my own artwork which adds colour and interest throughout. We have tried to keep it traditional but with the usual amenities we all like to have at hand. It is a dream cottage in a convenient location.
Maria and Wes are both southerners who fell in love with this part of Scotland twenty years ago. Maria writes books and paints. You'll see her art displayed all over the house, which is always for sale. She has owned a cafe bistro in the past so loves to present her cooking talents to the guests. Local produce is always on offer as the surrounding farms bring along their products on a regular basis. Added to this Wes is a fisherman who specialises in lobster, crab and mackerel when in season.
They have both done full ski seasons for VIP's in the past so have what it takes to make your stay special and memorable. Their local knowledge is great, depending on your interests. Sking, walking, kayaking, bird watching, fishing, castles, whisky tours, lochs and whatever else you need to know. They never miss an opportunity to try out anything new in the area so their information is invaluable to guests.
Ideally placed. We are at the start of the walk to Dunnottar Castle, 1 Castle street. The front of the property is on the lane side with no parking, so very quiet. The other side overlooks a courtyard with views looking out to the harbour. At the side of the cottage a lane leads to the harbour with all its amenities (30 second walk). Within the harbour we have two pubs/restaurants, one award winning restaurant and two cafes. The village and surrounding roads are full of shops, cafes, bars, supermarkets, ice cream shops, takeaways and everything else you could want. Behind the harbour is the bay with its award winning beach and there is a lovely walk along the promenade to the town centre. Stonehaven is a busy, booming town offering many things to do and see including a lido, golf, fishing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, historical points of interest and so much more. Aberdeen is 15 miles north and south you have historic fishing villages and St Cyrus beach. Inland you have the Cairngorms and Braemar (the queens favourite home). The local produce is caught fresh daily and seafood is straight off the boat, sometimes even off my husband Wes' own fishing boat.
