The ancient town of Bodmin has many attractions including the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, which leaves the old town station and chugs down the valley to the mainline branch, what a way to tour the county! Bodmin is also the perfect place to join the Camel Trail - a flat, 18.3-mile, traffic-free route that’s free to use and suitable for all abilities. The trail winds through a variety of beautiful landscapes and connects Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin. For those feeling energetic, it’s ideal for both walking and cycling — whether you choose to tackle the entire route or just enjoy a shorter section at your own pace. If its Cornish history you are looking for, the newly renovated Bodmin Jail is full of it. The jail was built in 1779 and, after years of sitting derelict, it has recently been transformed into a luxurious hotel with a museum, restaurant and champagne bar. The surrounding Bodmin Moor is also where you can find Jamaica Inn, immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name. The stunning National Trust property of Lanhydrock House is close by and has many activities throughout the year. Bodmin is a great location for discovering the dramatic north coast which is a surfers paradise, whilst the sub tropical south coast, has calmer seas and very different scenery. Attractions near Liskeard include outdoor activities like hiking at Golitha Falls and Siblyback Lake, thrill-seeking at Adrenalin Quarry and exploring underground at Carnglaze Caverns.
