Our home, Heathcliff House, was built shortly after the arrival of the railway to Torre in 1853, and is a substantial semi-detached Victorian villa standing in an elevated position overlooking Torre valley. This location has been a conservation area since 2005 and Heathcliff House is on one of the main roads into Torquay with great travel links for trains, buses and coaches and just a ten to fifteen minute walk from the harbour and sea front. A former vicarage, the property retains a number of original features and we are looking forward to restoring and renovating this grand old lady and finding out her history and information about former residents! We have retained the property's four star rating with Visit England have been awarded a Tripadvisor Silver Greenleaders award in recognition of our work towards operating a sustainable business. We scooped a Bronze for Best B&B of the Year 2018 in the Herald Express Tourism Awards and a Bronze at this year's English Riviera Tourism Awards gained a Bronze in the same category against some very stiff boutique accommodation.
Having holidayed in Devon as children and then coming back with our own children, we loved south Devon, the coastal and river towns, the wealth of history and the glorious "riviera" weather! Giving up our careers was challenging but we can honestly say we are doing what we love and we are loving what we do! Everyday is a holiday!
Newton Road is on the edge of a conservation area showcasing a wide range of Victorian architecture. There are great public transport links with a bus stop to Torquay Town Centre and Brixham across the road and a bus stop to Newton Abbot and Exeter beside our driveway!
