Practically on the doorstep of your cottage you have the coast with its long, silver beaches complemented by striking castles. Craster is a picturesque fishing village with the most delicious kippers and the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle is a short drive away, as are Alnmouth and Alnwick, with Europe’s largest water garden and the magnificent 11th-century castle. Seahouses, a bustling harbour seaside resort, is only 10 minutes and a great place to start with fishing trips and ferries to the Farne Islands to see the bird and seal colonies, organised by a number of companies. The coastline is peppered with small fishing villages, and inland you have the hills and forests. Both sea and river fishing are in abundance in Northumerland.
