Scalby, a lovely rural village with a historic church, café/restaurant, shops and two local inns, is only a 15-minute walk from the cottages and, if visitors can bear to leave the comfort and special tranquillity of Barmoor, it is ideally located for walking, cycling or touring the glorious forests, moorland and seascapes which are virtually on the doorstep. Each cottage offers a ‘Drive/walk, good food guide’, compiled by the owners to maximise visitors’ holiday enjoyment. Among Scarborough’s many attractions are a Sea Life Centre and Theatre in the Round (offering productions and films for all ages) as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés and evening entertainment. Sea trips are available from the harbour and coarse fishing is enjoyed at nearby Throxenby Mere.
