Locheil Apartment provides cosy accommodation for those looking for a relaxed break in idyllic surroundings, or somewhere to return to after enjoying more strenuous outdoor activities. Attached to our house, but with separate access, the apartment was completely refurbished in 2021. It is centrally heated, with under-floor heating on the ground floor. Downstairs, the well-equipped kitchen-diner has solid oak worktops, electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, and washing machine / dryer, as well as a large dining table. The small bathroom has a compact bath with shower over. Upstairs, there is bamboo flooring throughout, and the cosy living room is furnished with sofa and easy chair, and has a 43” smart TV with Freesat. There are panoramic views of the Cairngorms. The bedroom, which boasts a king-size bed with oak headboard, has ample storage and hanging space. Outside there is a large sheltered south-facing decking area with table and chairs. Parking is in our own yard, immediately adjacent to the apartment, and access to the apartment is via the decking, involving 4 steps. Free wifi is provided, and mobile coverage is generally good.
We are Briony and Martin Jones, and we are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. We set up our two holiday properties specifically to provide cosy accommodation for single people and couples (and dogs in the cottage!), and they have become very popular. We can offer you a personal touch, as we do (nearly) all the changeovers ourselves, and aim to meet and welcome all our guests (unless they prefer to use the key safe). We are dog-lovers ourselves, with a black lab called Dexter, and some hens, so you will get complimentary eggs when they are laying. We have been in Boat of Garten for 11 years, and are more than happy to suggest things to do locally. Martin is a keen bird-watcher and local badger guide, and happy to share his knowledge with guests. Briony, who works locally, will be your main point of contact prior to your visit, and will make sure you receive all the information you will need to find us and make the most of your stay. We look forward to meeting you!
The apartment is situated in the hamlet of Drumuillie, conveniently located just off the A95 about 6 miles from both Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey, in the Cairngorms National Park, close to the River Spey and surrounded by woods and farmland. The apartment is in a sheltered location with wonderful views overlooking the River Spey and Strathspey Steam Railway with the Cairngorms in the background. For those arriving by public transport, there are regular buses to Boat of Garten, a few of which pass the apartment. We are within easy reach of the Cairngorm Mountain ski resort, the Landmark Forest Adventure Park, the RSPB Loch Garten Nature Centre, and a host of other places of interest. There are fabulous walks and cycle rides from the apartment, with bike hire available in Boat of Garten. Deer, rabbits, hares, and many species of birds can be seen in the vicinity. Horse riding, fishing and golf are all available nearby. Boat of Garten is within a mile (via a footpath), where you will find Andersons Restaurant, The Boat Country Inn & Restaurant, and the Osprey Café, as well as the well-stocked Post Office & general store.
