Great location for seeing our families who live all over Dorset. Accommodation small but adequate for our week stay. We were out and about every day. Fridge was a bonus for medication. Very quiet we could just come and go as we wished. Loved it.

The bedroom although not large is comfortable & both the bedroom & en-suite were immaculately clean. The fridge was a surprise. The village location is very pleasant with a great pub on the door step.

Longbarn House’s guest room in West Stafford is a private double bedroom with an en-suite only, which does not offer breakfast. The house is a charming blend of rustic history and modern comfort—a cosy hideaway within a converted 1850s milking barn, just a stone’s throw from the church where Tess and Angel Clare tied the knot. Nestled in a private annexe with its own entrance, the room sits under the eaves of the old barn. It’s compact, quiet, and thoughtfully furnished to create a peaceful retreat. A comfortable double bed is dressed in crisp 100% cotton linen (white, naturally!), surrounded by tasteful, country-style décor. An en-suite bathroom ensures total privacy and convenience. Little touches elevate the experience: fluffy white towels from John Lewis, The White Company bedding, and tea‑and‑coffee‑making facilities. Despite its old‑world charm, the room is equipped with a modern flat‑screen TV and Wi‑Fi is available, and the separate entrance means you can come and go at will—perfect for late‑night strolls or countryside walks. In summary, the Longbarn House guest room offers: Historical character in a quaint barn conversion, Private and cosy annexe accommodation under the eaves, Luxury essentials—ensuite, premium linens, fluffy towels, Modern comforts—TV, tea‑coffee station, Wi‑Fi, Freedom & convenience with your own entrance to the village. Ideal for a romantic weekend, literary pilgrimage to Thomas Hardy’s Dorset, work or business trips or a peaceful countryside escape.
Hello! I’m the person behind Longbarn House — your host, and general behind-the-scenes comfort-creator. I opened up the guest room here with one simple idea: to offer a quiet, cosy space where people could unwind and feel refreshed. Nestled in the heart of West Stafford, Longbarn House is a place full of soft corners, thoughtful touches, and an easygoing sense of peace. I’m a big believer in slow mornings, local walks, and a good cup of tea. I’ve done my best to make sure everything here feels warm, simple, and welcoming. Whether you're visiting for a countryside break, a special occasion, for business, or just passing through, I’m always happy to help make your time here as lovely as possible. Looking forward to welcoming you.
Nestled in the heart of rural Dorset, West Stafford is a picturesque village steeped in history and literary charm. Surrounded by rolling countryside and thatched cottages, the village was a favourite haunt of Thomas Hardy, who drew inspiration from its quiet beauty. West Stafford features prominently in Tess of the D’Urbervilles — the church here is widely believed to be the setting for Tess and Angel Clare’s ill-fated wedding. Just a short stroll from the guest room is The Wise Man Inn, a characterful pub known for its welcoming atmosphere, delicious seasonal food, and local ales — the perfect spot to relax after a walk through Hardy’s Wessex. Whether you're a literature lover, a pub enthusiast, or simply in search of peace and beauty, West Stafford offers a little slice of classic Dorset life.
