Property information

Located near to Potter Heigham, Margaret's Cottage is an end of terrace farm cottage surrounded by countryside, dating back to the 1900s. Ideal for families looking for a peaceful, rural setting but still close to lots of amenities and family entertainment, this hideaway is six miles away from the beautiful beaches of Sea Palling and Waxham, and less than a mile from one of the main boating centres on the Norfolk Broads.

Neighbourhood information

Potter Heigham is one of the major boating centre's in The Broads National Park. The famous medieval bridge gives access to the Upper Thurne, Hickling Broad and Horsey Mere. The banks of the River Thurne at Potter Heigham are lined with waterside bungalows, which can only be accessed by foot or boat. Children can enjoy feeding the ducks at the riverside. Lathams discount store is located in Potter Heigham, as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes (The Falgate Inn and Norada Grill & Tavern), a chip-shop and newsagent. The main village itself is actually located the other side of the major A149 road and is mainly residential and quite separate from the boating centre, and has a lovely village church, St Nicholas. Sutton Staithe, which sits on the River Ant is a very picturesque part of the Norfolk Broads with access to Sutton RSPB, and you can hire day, picnic boat or electric boat by the hour, half day or full day at Sutton Staithe Boatyard. The largest of the Broads, NWT Hickling Broad is a year-round haven for wildlife. Hickling is home to the common crane, bittern, marsh harrier, bearded tit and Cetti’s warbler. In winter large numbers of marsh harriers roost in the reed bed and merlin and hen harrier are also regular. Barn owl is almost guaranteed and you may see kingfisher if you are lucky. Interesting mammals include the introduced Chinese water deer, red deer and hard-to-see otters. Amongst the many insects are two iconic local specialities – the swallowtail butterfly and the Norfolk hawker dragonfly. Less than five miles away is the Broads’ market town of Stalham with its restaurants, pubs and shops and superstore. Stalham is another of the major starting points of Norfolk Broads boating holidays. Fifteen minutes by car is Sea Palling beach, a popular Blue Flag Norfolk beach which is not too over-crowded, yet has amusements, cafes and amenities set back from the beach, making it an ideal family destination.
