Newly renovated and modernised 1850;s detached stone cottage, set in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. The extensive garden backs on to the stunning Kirroughtree forest and the elevated position allows for beautiful front and rear views. Take a walk into the forest park from the door step, sit at the patio doors watching the garden birds or cosy up in front of the fire. Large velux windows allow you to sleep or bathe under the stars in Galloway dark skies forest park. The property is set over 2 floors. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with king size bed, electric fire and ensuite. Second bedroom with 2 twin beds and main bathroom with freestanding bath and walk in shower. Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen diner with full size fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Off the kitchen there is a small, ground floor 3rd bedroom with bifold door, double bed, fitted cupboard and window with rear garden views. There is a small conservatory with additional seating and a bright, cosy living room with large front window, rear patio doors and gas log burner effect fire. We have a large split level garden for you to enjoy with the lower level, to the rear of the patio doors being fully enclosed by gates and fencing to a minimum of 3ft in height. The elevated upper level is accessed by gated stone steps and offers beautiful open views. It is mostly enclosed but in a couple of parts this is only by low height walls, wire fence, shrubs and/or significant change in elevations, it is therefore recommended dogs and children are supervised when accessing this level. There is free off road parking for up to 2 cars in tandem and we offer contact free check in for full flexibility
The property has undergone extensive renovations which are currently ongoing. You may therefore notice some slight changes and updates to the current photos by the time of your stay with us.
Blackcraig is a tranquil hamlet close to the town of Newton Stewart, which is known as the gateway to the Galloway Hills. It is served by a bus route operating from Dumfries to Stranraer which makes exploring the area very accessible. Dumfries and Galloway, also known as the Scottish Riviera, offers miles of stunning coast line, vast hills and spectacular scenery perfect for outdoor pursuits. Kirroughtree Visitor Centre Cafe and bike hire are only a woodland walk away. Fishing, watersports, golf, tennis and swimming are also available locally. For those rainy or quieter days, Newton Stewart is within walking distance or can be accessed via a cycle path or car. Here you will find a range of local amenities including supermarkets, butchers, post office, homewares, gift shops, leisure centre, cinema, cafes and public houses. There is also an arts centre which offers varied entertainment and craft activities. Further afield are the lovely towns of Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkdudbright and Portpatrick. Wigtown, Scotlands National Book Town, is less than a 15minute drive away and the ferry port of Cairnryan is around 30 minutes away for those travelling onwards to Ireland.
