Close by you will find Hardwick Hall, built in the 1590s by ’Bess of Hardwick’ the second most powerful woman in England after Queen Elizabeth I. The jaw dropping hall is now open to the public through the National Trust and has a visitor centre with shop and coffee shop. Whilst visiting Hardwick Hall why not visit the estates original watermill, still in operation and open to the public, then enjoy lunch at the Hardwick Inn dating back to the 16th century. A short drive away you will find the delights of the Peak District, including Chatsworth House, the town of Matlock and Matlock Bath famous for its illuminations and Heights of Abraham cable car. For a nostalgic journey back in time hop onto one of the Peak Steam engines or journey back in time on one of the historic narrow boats on the Cromford Canal.
