Majutusasutuse teave

The Ratcliffe Room in Haydon Bridge is named after Sir Edward Radcliffe, a significant historical figure associated with Langley Castle, which is located near Haydon Bridge in Northumberland. In the 16th century, Sir Edward's grandfather leased one of the baronies from Henry VIII in 1514. Later, in 1631, Sir Edward purchased the Langley Barony from the Earl of Annandale. He expanded his holdings by acquiring numerous properties, including the lucrative Alston lead mines, aiming to establish himself as a prominent aristocrat in Northumberland. However, during the English Civil War, his properties were impounded. His son managed to redeem these properties by raising 10k through the sale of his mother's manors in Yorkshire. Despite this, the family showed little interest in Langley Castle, eventually leasing it out in 1671 . The naming of the Ratcliffe Room serves as a tribute to Sir Edward Radcliffe's historical connection to Langley Castle and the surrounding area. It's worth noting that the spelling "Ratcliffe" is an alternative form of "Radcliffe," which was commonly used in historical documents. Nestled in the heart of Northumberland, the charming village of Haydon Bridge is home to a gem that brings locals and visitors together — The Railway. “It’s more than a pub, really. It’s a community hub. People come here for music nights, quiz nights, a bit of banter — and yes, the beer helps too!”
