Company information

Hi! We’re Sam and Rachel, Resident Managers and dedicated hosts at Butterwell Farm. We live here with our 3 children, 2 dachshunds, tortoise, 23 sheep and 30 chickens (numbers accurate at the time of writing!) We took over at Butterwell Farm in 2014, an already established holiday business. Butterwell Farm in the Camel Valley is a unique and special location, which has been enjoyed across the generations for over 50 years. The number of returning guests year on year is testament to its wonderful charm and appeal. We’re both great lovers of the outdoors and the natural environment. We’re passionate about protecting and preserving the magical place that Butterwell is for future generations to come, and sharing this special place with our guests. Butterwell Farm is an abundance of nature and wildlife. Butterwell is a family run business and you will therefore feel immediately at home and relaxed in your environment. We are very proud of the reputation and consistent 5 star reviews we’ve built up since we arrived here. Whether it’s a short break with friends, a romantic getaway or your annual family summer holiday, we can’t wait to welcome you all to Butterwell Farm and share our slice of Cornish heaven with you. We are always on hand to help and give great advice on things to do and places to visit in the area.

Property information

Butterwell Farm riverside holiday cottages and wildlife estate in the heart of Cornwall is the ultimate rural retreat in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are nestled in the picturesque Camel Valley overlooking the River Camel and famous Camel Valley Vineyard. We are ideally located just twenty minutes from both North & South coasts. If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity surrounded by nature and wildlife, then look no further. We are a family run business that has been welcoming guests since 1975. Butterwell Farm has four holiday cottages on a private 40-acre nature reserve on the banks of the River Camel in North Cornwall. Experience riverside walks, ancient woodland, wildlife ponds, and our small flock of Jacob sheep. Butterwell Farm is an ideal countryside retreat that is walking distance to pub, tea garden and vineyard, and just 10 miles from Padstow on the Camel Trail. After a day out exploring the many nearby fishing villages, beaches or inland adventures, you can cosy up in front of the log burner in one of our beautifully appointed riverside holiday cottages. Butterwell Farm is the perfect base for exploring the whole of Cornwall with a host of nearby sandy beaches and Cornwall’s famous and rugged Coastal Path and Bodmin Moor – our location is a walker’s paradise. We have direct access to the Camel Trail which is the most cycled off road trail in the UK and it’s easy to see why with its spectacular and varied scenery from coastal to estuary to woodland and forest. The trail is almost completely flat making it accessible and fun for all abilities and ages. It is 18 miles in length from Padstow on the coast up to Bodmin Moor. With our own private stretch of the River Camel, Butterwell Farm also offers spectacular salmon and sea-trout fishing by separate booking.

Neighbourhood information

Whether it’s summer or winter, or somewhere in between, there is so much to do in Cornwall. If you’re a family with young children, or a couple that likes to take things a bit slower, there are plenty of options on your trips out from Butterwell Farm. We always encourage our guests to check out what’s on their doorstep at Butterwell Farm. We have a 40 acre private nature reserve which is reserved for our guests only. Enjoy woodland and river walks in total tranquility here on the farm, spotting wildlife as you go. And don’t forget to come and visit our brood of chickens and say hello to the sheep that roam our estate freely. We offer our guests an ultimate guide on things to do during your stay as well as an extensive and bespoke restaurant guide for our local area.
