“The cottage is in a perfect location, very cosy clean and comfortable. Lovely restaurant/pub across the road which also done takeaway for us. Shop 5 min drive away. Loved the scenery and the real fire in the cottage.”

Wanlockhead is a village in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, nestling in the Lowther Hills and 1 mile south of Leadhills at the head of the Mennock Pass, which forms part of the Southern Uplands. It is Scotland's highest village, at an elevation of around 1531ft, and can be accessed via the B797, which connects it to the A76 near Sanquhar and the A74(M) motorway at Abington. This former lead mining settlement still acknowledges the former glory of the mining days and retains some of the history in and around the local Lead Mining Museum. The scenery, when either walking, cycling or driving in and around the village is some of the most dramatic and beautiful in the Scotland. Quite surprising is that the location of the cottage is less than eight miles from Abington Services on the M74 Motorway.
