Our magnificent Victorian building was built in 1888 as part of the nearby Leeds Minster estate. The first foundation stones were laid on the south side of the building by Rev. Canon Jayne of Leeds Minster. The building was originally called Kirkgate House. In the 1940s during World War II, the Market District Boys' Club was given the building as a social club which housed a gym on the top floor. The locality was also used as a refuge for returning soldiers and their families. From 1963 the building was used by Leeds City Council until the late 80's when, like many buildings from before Leeds' renaissance, it was left to fall into a state of disrepair. Fast forward to 2014 when the building was purchased by its current owners with the vision to bring the building back to life. With a strong will to make a statement with this wonderful building, work was completed in 2017 with the building being fully restored, exposing many of the original features within. The Bells was born, named after the sound of the wonderful and much lauded thirteen church bells of Leeds Minster.
