Excellent location with nice thoughtful touches- especially as we were bringing a guide dog with our group. The house was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed.

Beautiful 19th century former Sea Captain's House just 9 minutes walk from Charlestown's lovely beaches and World Heritage Harbour with its wealth of interesting shops, restaurants and cafes, bars and pubs. The Captain's House retains it's sense of history with it's lofty ceilings, tall sash windows and peaceful gardens - the outer long-lawned front garden, the more secluded, sunny inner garden and the entirely enclosed back garden. Charlestown is situated between St Austell Bay's array of wonderful beaches with Par Beach and Carlyon Bay beach to the East and Duporth beach, Porthpean beach (with the house from the film About Time) on the other. Just around Black head point is tiny Hallane cove and then the expansive Pentewan beach with Mevagissey Harbour just beyond and Heligan's Lost Gardens in the hills behind. Hire bikes at Pentewan and cycle the trail beside St Austell River or up to Heligan. The Eden Project is 15 mins away by from The Captain's House. Tesco and Asda are just 5 mins away We charge a small pet fee of 30 pounds per stay, you will need to indicate a pet in the booking please.

Charlestown is located about a mile outside the town of St Austell. Charlestown, an amazingly pristine, unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port. It was constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh, entrepreneur and member of the local landowning family, in response to the growth of the growth of the local mining industry. Originally built to export copper and import coal, it was soon being used for the export of China Clay. It is from its creator that the the port gets its name.
