The Chicken Shed at Knowle Top is situated in a unique location, high on the Ribble Valley side of Lancashire’s iconic Pendle Hill. The ever-changing skies and light over the landscapes and Clitheroe's castle and spires can be observed through our panoramic windows. Surrounded by pastures with sheep and the occasional cow, it’s a place where hare and fox come to say good-night. Despite this rural idyll, we’re only a five minute car drive from Clitheroe - one of the North-West’s nicest market towns. Hiking paths start right from our doorstep, including walks to some of the area's famous gastro pubs. The interiors are spacious and light, decorated in state of the art industrial chic with a cosy, clean finish. The high ceilings are from the original barn structure and the furniture is French elegance meets English cottage. Due to our location, we are not best suited for guests arriving by public transport.
We are two photographers who are every day inspired by the beauty of our area. We are delighted to welcome guests for a stay in the Chicken Shed, our luxury boutique self catering on the side of Pendle Hill, to enjoy our breathtaking views.
We renovated this barn using original stones as well as beams and structural parts that have been at Knowle Top for many decades.
The ideal occupancy is two adults.
Please know that the facility is non-smoking, and that we don’t allow pets.
The concept of the Chicken Shed is to immerse our guests in nature, and at times the winds blow down Pendle hard. We think it part of the charm, and made sure the Chicken Shed enjoys perfect insulation so our guests are always cosy and warm. We think it a great place to relax, but with high speed internet, this also an ideal place for a work retreat.
The Ribble Valley is one of the U.K.’s best kept secrets. Within close distance of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, it has a little bit of everything, dramatic landscapes, soft rolling hills, picturesque little villages and also a cultural hub in the bustling market town of Clitheroe.
The Ribble springs from the Dales and makes her meandering way to the sea by Lytham St. Anne. She is fed by the Hodder and the Calder, and has seen the Celts, Romans, Normans and Saxons fight, settle, build garrisons or castles along its banks.
Today, the Borough is primarily agricultural. Low-scale eco-tourism brings visitors who enjoy to explore off the beaten path, away from crowds, at one with nature.
