Located within the heart of Biggar, stands the historical site of The Old Mill. A site standing to the test of time. This old mill is believed to be just over 600 years old. It was mentioned as early as 1367, when Sir Malcolm Fleming collected mill duties. It has remained an integral part of the community ever since. By 1451, the mill was an important part of the town's economy, even appearing in Biggar's inventory when the town received its burgh status. A unique addition to The Old Mill, is the well preserved machinery found inside the public lounge/breakfast area. This complex gearing system was used to turn the old water wheel that has since been removed. But the gearing stands as a reminder of the past. The Old Mill offers a whole host of features. With a 24-hour help just one phone call away! We'll be sure to fit your every need. Each room has a private shower room, a seating area, a TV, (With Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.) a wardrobe, a tea & coffee machine, cold drinks, and biscuits! Breakfast is also included every morning! A tick sheet menu will be provided each night for you to fill out and leave in the breakfast area for us to come and collect! You get to decide not only what you want for breakfast... But when you want it.
This bed and breakfast has been a dream come true for us! Dating all the way back to the purchase of the derilect building back in 2008. Due to the financial crash, things were a bit chaotic, and renovations were never able to take place until 2017, but since then we've had a vision and stuck by it. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but we are happy and proud to say that we're finally knocking on the door of fruition!
Biggar is a historic town, dating back to the 12th century when a Norman motte and bailey was built. The town has won awards for its attractions, including Best Tourist Town in Scotland. It's a town littered with historic finds, either through museums and monuments, or even just along the high street. Biggar is also a hub for getaway relaxing activities. Cycling, tennis, and hiking are popular in Biggar and the surrounding areas. Edinburgh city centre is 47 km from the property. The nearest airport is Edinburgh Airport, 38 km from the property.
