The Old Stores is a stunning Georgian house, in the heart of historic Montgomery. With two uniquely designed, deluxe guest rooms, retained period features alongside contemporary art and handwoven antique carpets, the house is full of personality and charm. The drawing room and courtyard garden are available exclusively for our guests. There is an outdoor socket for Trickle Charging of electric cars. Montgomery is located on the Shropshire-Welsh border against a backdrop of rolling hills. Outdoors there’s so much to do – explore castle ruins, country churches, Montgomery’s Thursday market, take a walk on Offa’s Dyke or a stroll along local footpaths.
Ruth was born into a local Montgomery family, and grew up on a farm in this delightful rural community. A large part of her adult life was spent in Beirut where she was passionate about sharing all the good things that Lebanon has to offer, and had great fun being a couch surfing host. Returning to Montgomery, swapping city life for the country, having a keen interest in people and a love of food and hospitality meant it was only a matter of time before a new adventure was created. The Old Stores is a great place to relax and a perfect base to explore beautiful Mid Wales and the Shropshire borders. Relive history by visiting Montgomery Castle and the County War Memorial, both provide excellent vantage points to enjoy the magnificent views of Mid Wales, and across the border into England. Discover the tomb of Richard Herbert, George’s father, and the Robber’s Grave at St Nicholas Church. The Old Bell Museum (just next door!) is crammed with objects and artifacts that tell the story of the town. Cloverland Model Car Museum houses an amazing collection of model cars compiled over many years by Miss Rogers, a veteran motor enthusiast. Browse around Bunner’s hardware/kitchenware shop, it has almost everything! Don’t miss Thursday, its market day, so enjoy the atmosphere as you shop for quality local produce on Broad Street.
