Immaculately clean, lovely welcome basket of local goodies and a "nothing's too much trouble" attitude of the hosts. Some lovely quirky touches to the decor. We'll be back.

The property is really nice. The kids loved the mezzanine level in the living room, especially the hammock! The place had everything we needed to rest, relax and eat between trips out to explore the local area - including Battle (ie of Hastings),...

The Old Workshop is in a quiet countryside location, a short distance from Wadhurst village, just above Snape Woods and close to Wadhurst Park. It is the perfect spot to take a break; whether you are looking for a walking holiday, an action packed family trip or perhaps just a peaceful escape. The property is approached from our driveway and looks out on our garden. It has its own small enclosed garden with a gate in to our field, providing direct access to the footpath network. A BBQ and picnic bench will be provided in warmer months, whilst we have a wood burning stove for cooler periods. There is parking for 1-2 cars adjacent to the cottage (including EV charger). A car is absolutely essential given the very rural location. The kitchen is equipped with electric Aga, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine (nespresso), kettle, toaster, fridge, crockery, utensils and saucepans. Washing machine, compact ironing board and iron. At mezzanine level, there is a dedicated workspace / desk area which looks out over the field, together with a suspended catamaran net for relaxing with a book! For children - we have a highchair, toys, books, crockery, cutlery and travel cot available. The bedrooms can be set up as a double (king) room and a twin room, or as two doubles (kings). The twin beds can be placed under the eaves with curtains, or in the centre of the room (better for adults). Well behaved pets welcome - up to 2 dogs. We provide throws for sofas, but they are not permitted in bedrooms. The Old Workshop is approximately 100m from our house (Snape Clock House). There are two other properties in the vicinity - a very beautiful 15th century barn, and the impressive Snape House. Welcome pack of local produce including bread, eggs, butter, granola and milk (additional treats for longer stays) - Please note that this is to help with the beginning of your stay - Breakfast is not provided daily.
We are based on site (but out of sight) a short distance away across the garden, in case you need anything at all. We are able to accommodate stays of up to 28 days at a time. Please be sure to research the property and location online before making your booking!
Wadhurst was voted the Best Place to Live in the UK (2023) by The Sunday Times. Our lovely village offers a wide range of shops and services, several coffee shops and delicatessens, a supermarket, post office, butcher, chemist, pub, doctor's surgery and dentist. Mayfield is also less than ten minutes' away, and is a gorgeous historic village with lots of wonderful amenities. Bewl Water reservoir provides over 12 miles of walking and cycling (bike hire available on site), together with fishing, laser tag, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, paddle boarding (including yoga) an aqua park and many other activities. Bedgebury Pinetum & Forest offers endless walks, Go Ape, mountain biking (hire available on site), woodland playgrounds, childrens' trails & a lakeside cafe. National Trust and English Heritage properties including Scotney Castle, Hever Castle, Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Bateman's, Bayham Abbey and Battle Abbey. The Bluebell Railway, Spa Valley Railway and Kent & East Sussex Railway are all within easy reach and are a fantastic and comfortable way to see the Weald AONB. Kent and Sussex are home to many wonderful established vineyards and breweries, offering tastings and tours. Bowles Rocks provides skiing and snowboarding independent sessions and lessons on their dry ski slopes. Rock climbing is also popular at Bowles, on their south facing limestone outcrop (230 climbs, <10m). Golf at Ticehurst (Dale Hill), Tunbridge Wells (Nevill), Lamberhurst, Rotherfield (Dewlands Manor), Crowborough (Boar's Head and Beacon) and many further afield, including two links courses at Rye. Ashdown Forest ('Pooh Country'), is the magical woodland that inspired the idyllic home of Winnie-the-Pooh. It provides over 6,500 acres of walking across heathland and through forest, with fantastic wildlife, and Pooh Sticks Bridge. Yoga, sound healing, meditation and a number of beauty options are available on site via external providers. Please ask prior to booking.
