This place is special. Lovely quiet location, a few yards to the right there is a path down to the beach where we sat in solitude listening to the birds and the sea and reading books. Lots of places to go or just be there which is a great place...

The location and quirkiness of the building were exemplary. The dark skies and stunning beaches were truly exhilarating. The solitude and connection to nature a huge plus. The sitting room was very cosy.

Auchencairn House
Tower lodge is a distinctive two bedroom Victorian gate house, overlooking the Solway Firth.
The Tower Lodge is part of a farm business which is owned and run by the Gilroy family. Sue and Piet Gilroy run the farm, while Poppy Baggott, their daughter runs the Tower lodge holidays.
Kirkcudbrightshire is renowned for inspiring artists, from the Glasgow boy Hornel, to Oppenheimer and more contemporary works today. This is due, largely to the completely captivating scenery which ranges from rugged heather clad hills, to woodland glades, and all the while the sea is in the background. As regards amenities in the local village of Auchencairn which is 1.5 miles approx down the road, there is a good garage should you require any vehicle repairs while you are here, and there is also a shop and a PO which are open from 8.30am - midday Monday - Saturday. There is also a Presbyterian Church in Auchencairn. As mentioned previously, there are a large number of activities available in the area, and also a good amount of cafe's restaurants and pubs to refresh yourself. Eating out: The Dragonfly in Auchencairn: Only recently opened with a lean towards vegan cuisine, enquire first as to whether it is open. The Balcary Hotel: Excellent food and under a mile walk from the tower. The Glenisle: In Palnackie, this is a good honest pub. The Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright: Excellent food and a really good location in the centre of town. A good atmosphere. Mr Pooks:...
