Waun Yscir is perfectly situated in the tranquil Yscir valley, just a 20 minute drive from the scenic market town of Brecon.
Merthyr Cynog is a peaceful rural farming community with far-reaching views and a slower pace of life.
Located just down the road from our family farm, you can book a slot to Pick Your Own flowers from July-September right here on the farm. Follow us @rivermeadowflowerfarm or check out our website by searching for River Meadow Flower Farm for more information.
Things to note:
- Waun Yscir's gloriously rural location means that internet connectivity is perfectly adequate for most purposes but please do not expect super fast broadband or uninterrupted connectivity during bad weather. We'd hate for you to be disappointed!
- We provide a full basket of logs for your stay so that you can stay nice and cosy in front of the log burner. If you run out of logs or kindling we can provide an extra basket of logs and kindling for an extra charge
- The hot tub is available for use all year round. We observe strict hygiene protocols so please note that the tub may not be up to temperature on the night of your arrival if we've had to empty the tub and refill it. It will be deliciously warm for you the following morning.
Myself, my husband Sean and our children live on our family farm in Merthyr Cynog. Sean is the 5th generation of his family to farm here. We farm around 700 sheep and about 30 cattle.
I also run River Meadow Flower Farm, specialising in cut flower production for florists and the public. Look out for our PYO flowers site in 2026!
Waun Yscir enjoys a truly fantastic location in completely unspoilt countryside. Brecon, Builth Wells and the Epynt hills are a stone's throw from here. Please note that if it snows we can be completely inaccessible so please keep an eye on the weather during the winter. We have a tractor and a 4x4 just down the road so we can always help if needed.
Close to Brecon are the following charming villages/towns:
- Crickhowell. About a 15 minute drive from Brecon, this quaint little village regularly pops up in the best places to live in Wales. What it lacks in size it makes up for in its abundance of independent shops , cafes and pubs. It's a fabulous little place to lose a morning in and leads you directly on to the larger town of...
-Abergavenny. Located about another 10 minutes on from Crickhowell, Abergavenny is a handsome market town, with a host of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, a museum and even a small castle. A great place for admiring the surrounding scenery of the Use valley.
- Hay-on-Wye. Located about half an hour's drive from Brecon, Hay is renowned for its world famous annual literature festival. The newly renovated castle is a joy, looming large over this picturesque little town of books. It really is a charming place, full of character and delightful independent shops, cafes and pubs. A must visit!
Unfortunately a car is pretty essential if you're staying here as we are fairly remote. Public transport is pretty non-existent in the countryside surrounding Brecon.
