Apartment located in the heart of Kalavrita with a fire place & own garage/parking space. The apartment is on the 2nd floor (lift in the building) of a traditional built of rock that matches the mountains wild scenery and offers unparalleled views to Helmos mountain. It is Ski-ready, with a separate storage room for skis and equipment its own fireplace and balcony 15 mins drive to the ski resort at winter, and 30 mins drive to Diakopto (Pounta beach) in the summer.
Neighbourhood overview:
-Heart of Kalavryta The apartment is located 400-500 meters from the heart of Kalavrita and its famous train station Odontotos that leads through the mountains to Diakopto beach.
-Mega Spileo The monastery of Mega Spileo (Large Cave) is the oldest monastery in Greece. It was founded in 362 and built over a large cave at the base of a huge cliff, hence the name Mega Spileo, at an altitude of 1km. It has been destroyed several times over the years due to war and fire. The last time was 1934, when a gunpowder magazine left over from the revolution of 1821 exploded. In 1943, the Nazis pushed 22 monks off a cliff to their deaths. The monastery is 8 storeys high and allows you to visit the cave and a museum with many treasures. Admission is free but it is nice to leave a donation. There is a dress code. No shorts or bare shoulders. Women must wear a skirt that is about ankle length. Men must wear long pants.
-Agia Lavra Agia Lavra is a very important site in Greek history. It is a monastery near Kalavrita that was founded in 961. It was built at an altitude of 961m and once housed 961 monks. It holds the skull of Agios Alexios, etc.
