The name Karigador comes from the Italian word caricare (to board), because there was a port for loading oak logs intended for the Venetian arsenal (karatada), and later for the export of agricultural products from the wider area of Brtonigla. From the former port, there is still a pier for mooring boats. Today, Karigador is a tourist resort with luxury villas, apartments, and holiday homes, beautiful rocky and pebble beaches with rich Mediterranean vegetation that stretches to the sea.
