Pondok Matekap (pondok means house and Matekap is the name given to the process of preparing rice fields using cows) is a masonry/teak timber dwelling built partially from a limasan style timber house. The timber used including doors, windows, floor and kitchen is 100% recycled, adapted and reinvented by our brilliant craftsmen on site. Despite the rustic charm of Pondok Matekap it has all the modern conveniences and comfort one needs for long and short term stays. You will enjoy nice features right down to international sockets (no need for adaptors). There are natural views from all directions taking in the rice fields, sea , garden and plantation. The swimming pond is chemical free and the 15 metre x 5 metre (at the deep end) swimming area is filtered by an additional attached pond of over 20 metre length. The filter pond is full of plants and local lava rock. We built and maintain a pathway to the our hill garden in the middle of the ricefields and situated on huge boulders. We have been able to plant around 35 trees up there to make a pleasant half way stop on the way to the beach. Wonderful 360 views from here. It is 250 meters to the beach from the house.

My name is Spencer and I am originally from England and have been staying on and off in Bali for about 17 years. I married Ira originally from Java and we have a young son. We love nature and the peace experienced in living in rural Bali. We are always looking and listening for a bird we may not have seen here. Our location is unique in Bali because we have amazing rice field vistas all around us and then the very long and natural tree lined beach. The beach is varied and interesting, 20 minutes walk along the beach and you arrive at Mejan beach which is surrounded by a circular cliff with a small waterfall and jet black sands. It can be accessed at low tide. Then you can take a scenic 30 minute drive straight up into the hills with panoramic views at the top and along the way. Add the magical and friendly Balinese culture and you will feel blessed you decided to visit. There are waterfalls to visit and really good quality local market cuisine to try. There is surfing to try or watch from a cafe on the cliff in nearby Balian. Temples are numerous and ceremonies are happening all the time in one place or another so you won`t miss out if it is interesting to you.
