Welcome To Rumah Pacung! My name is Grace Larantuka, and I am your host. I work closely with the landowners, I Nyoman Gede Ambara Jaya and Ibu Anik Meylina, who are also the on-site managers. We are delighted to share Rumah Pacung with you and hope you will have a wonderful stay.

Rumah Pacung was built in 2024 with labour only from Wongaya Gede, our village here. Pacung is the Balinese word for the top edge or point of a rice terrace, like the bow of a small boat. The wood for the structure is 150-year-old recycled teak from Java, sourced from Blora, Central Java. It was planted during the Dutch colonial period. The house was disassembled the house, transported to Bali and rebuilt.

Wongaya Gede continues to have strong social cohesiveness due mainly to a near absence of outside investment. The community has resisted selling their land and prioritized village-based development such as D’Uma Bendoel, the homestays you passed in the rice terraces just above Villa Pacung. The village also benefits from the main road ending at the Temple Pura Batu Karu, so unlike the busy roads to the east and west, there is no through traffic to north Bali. As a result, Wongaya Gede has, thus far, avoided the rapid development found just to the south. Everything you see from the Villa makes up the south face and foothills of the Batukaru mountain range. Gunung (mountain) Batu Karu is the tallest and the second-highest mountain in Bali. The others to the east are Gunung Sanyang, Gunung Pohen, and Gunung Tapak. They comprise the heart of Bali’s central highlands and are rich in biodiversity and spiritual significance.
