A warm welcome at our secluded, private Villa Tentrem, situated about 75 km southeast of Yogyakarta. (about 2 hours drive by car) „Tentrem“ in Javanese means peace and tranquility. Experience the tranquil serenity in a traditional Javanese house in a peaceful environment on the Southern coast high above the Indian Ocean Restore your spirit sitting on the spacious terrace, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, while listening to the waves, birds singing and the wind soothing away tension and stress. Let nature guide you into a relaxing, comfortable stay. Watch stunning sunsets from a gazebo on top of the hill overlooking the rugged coastline of the Indian Ocean with its spectacular roaring waves. The white sand beach entices you for an invigorating run, while small kiosks sell refreshing drinks and snacks. (7 minutes walk). Some more secluded beaches are nearby. The Villa. Formerly Villa Tentrem was an old Javanese village teakwood house. We added different artistic stone walls to correspond to the needs of a modern traveler. You will always discover something new and surprising looking around at the unique design.
My husband is Indonesian, his name is Wid. I, Roswitha, came first to Indonesia in 1980 and fell in love. Fell in love with the people, with the surrounding, the nature, the very different way of life, the food. Finally I moved to Indonesia in 1983 and studied for the first 2 years at the Art Institute in Yogyakarta, living first with my Indonesian family. I must say the encounter and living together very closely of two totally different cultures was not easy at all. In 1985 went to Germany rightaway where we lived and worked in Bremen. Another year in Germany and we moved back to Indonesia which was even harder culturalwise. I always liked to travel and took the kids to all over Java by driving the car by myself. Finally I also opened a travel agency which till now runs quite well. I still like to accompany visitors especially in Java. So many beautiful spots everywhere and friendly people. Even also Java is now changing with the globalization. But still it is possible to find great places. One of my favourites are the beaches on the ragged Southern coast of Java. There we found the land for our traditional Javanese village house. A cool breeze is always blowing in the house itself and especially at the lookout point. The owner villa is my husband, I just help him to find relations, just support him. Actually the villa is used by our family. This is not real business
The Southern mountains „Gunung Kidul“, as the area is called – stretches along the south coast of Java. In former times vast teak wood plantations covered the area, which had been deforested. Nowadays a deforestation program succeeded and in the rainy season the landscape is lush and green. The Southern mountains are a vast karst region. The rain sinks into caves in the underground and emerges often again at the coast. The southern coast is rough and wild, but exotic with innumerable beautiful white sandy beaches with bizarre rock formations. Some of these beaches provide fresh fish and other sea products supplied by local fisherman. Unfortunately swimming is only possible at very few spots. But you often find “bathtubs” – white sandy holes secluded by coral rocks where you can plunge in and enjoy the water. The inhabitants are often farmers, who mainly cultivate maniok, peanuts and maize during the rainy season. In the dry season the area looks quite barren. Tourism is developing slowly. Therefore the village people gain an extra income especially during the long dry season. During your walks through the fields a smile is a nice gesture and you will be immediately welcomed.
